I saw WASTED RITA at The Other Art Fair in London a couple of weeks ago (which I really have to write about) and just found her card in my stash while tidying up. I am pleased.
Her work at the first didn’t immediately strike me as anything too special; text based work with quirky, pointed puns and a bit of playfulness. It certainly didn’t represent the large body of work she’s got behind her, which is grand.
I like the fact that she’s from my ol’ stomping ground of Jersey (and proud) and grew up with a mix of religiousness and angst. It gives her work a bit of a bite, like a lemonhead. But she describes herself best as “Amazingly rough, sweet as bananas.”
