Yoshio Kubo presented his collection for Spring/Summer 2013 at Tokyo Fashion Week and it’s certainly one to be admired. Kubo doesn’t give his collections names and is generally fairly mysterious about his inspirations as well, believing his work speaks for itself. That’s certainly true in the case of this collection.
Whilst Kubo refuses to give an insight into what inspires his collection, to me, this one shows some very clear influences; films such as The Dark Knight, sub cultures such as 80’s hip-hop, LA gangs and Yakuza.
Kubo’s design style is bold, strong and full of colour and print, meaning a fair chunk of the collection won’t be for everyone. Having said that, despite the fact the his clothes walk a close line between wild and wearable, Kubo’s collection has a good number of fantastic pieces you wouldn’t feel conspicuous wearing on most streets.
I’m a big fan of that kimono-esque three piece suit. And yeah, the lace trimmed shorts. What of it?
