Richard Heeps

Whilst mindlessly strolling through the Spitalfields market, my mind and fingers numb from rummaging through piles of abandoned memorabilia, I stumbled upon a little display which quickly tore me out of my lethargy. The large glossy prints which distracted me – all-American kitsch and fast cars lit up with garish colours – were the work of Richard Heeps, a talented British photographer. His work is a colourful exploration of the modern world through traditional film photography – a juxtaposition of natural beauty and fast cars, poverty and extravagance. You can check out some of Heeps’ work in the Bleach Box – a gallery dedicated to contemporary artists who haven’t succumbed to the right-here-right-now allure of digital photography.
