Yesterday Swann Galleries held an auction of Contemporary Art, including a run of items heavily tagged by Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat and prominent street artists of the 1980s. These jacket, skirts and other ephemera serve as a “who’s who” of the downtown New York City street art scene in the 1980s. As a door person for the Danceteria VIP room “Congo Bill,” the owner of these items, Joy Bouldin, helped originate the idea of tagged clothing in the early 1980s by inviting her social contacts to inscribe her accessories.
Featured artists include: Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Cey Adams, Shadi, Futura 2000, Ad-Rock, Energy, Fab Five Freddy, Zephyr, Dr. Revolt, Crash and others.
